This is a nice example of an unlimited edition paperweight designed by Alastair MacIntosh for Caithness Glass in 1992.
The paperweight is of solid globular form and contains a central large bubble surmounting a cushion of smaller bubbles. At the top, there is a large lattice of small bubbles and inclusions that extend down over the large bubble. It is described in the catalogue as ‘Cascading rain drops shower a silvery moon’.
The base is polished flat and is hand engraved around the edge with the words ‘SILVER RAIN CAITHNESS SCOTLAND P64500’.
This piece is shown in the 1992 Caithness catalogue as being from an unlimited edition and having the pattern number U9240.
It has a maximum height of approximately 7.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 580g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some fine scratches to the base and a couple on the body commensurate with age and use.
