This is a quintessentially retro example of a small ceramic flower vase produced by Bay Keramik dating to the mid-20th century.
There is a galleried rim above a short, waisted neck. Below this, the body is of classic baluster form, tapering in towards the base.
The body is divided into twenty – four squares containing various repeating abstract designs. The area between the rim and the shoulder and just above the base has a pitted or beaten effect. The whole is glazed in a pistachio yellow-green colour, which appears darker in the recesses of the design.
The underside of the base is moulded in relief with the words ‘BAY W-GERMANY’ and the numbers ’60 14’.
It has a height of approximately 14.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.0cm and across the base of about the same.
It has an unwrapped weight of 300g.
It is in good condition for its age, although there is a small rough linear blemish in the glaze and a tiny chip on the edge of the base. This measures 2mm across and is only visible on close inspection but I mention it for the sake of completion.
