This is a highly sought-after wine decanter from the earlier edition of the ‘Royal Tara’ suite produced by Waterford Crystal.
The decanter has an everted rim, with a neck that tapers in slightly and then broadens out to the shoulder. The neck and upper part of the shoulder are cut with eight elongated facets with a curved upper margin and a triangular base. Between these facets, at the widest point of the body, is a row of eight diamond-shaped facets, whose four sides are slightly curved. Below this are two rows of staggered hexagonal facets, forming a honeycomb effect.
The last row of cutting consists of pentagonal facets with straight sides extending into the base. The base is plain and marked at the edge with the word ‘WATERFORD’.
The stopper is of thickened discoid form with a faceted conical apex. There is a short cylindrical section and a waisted portion between the stopper and the elongated, tapering peg.
The decanter has a maximum height (including the stopper) of approximately 33.5cm and a height to the rim of about 27.2cm.
It has a liquid capacity of 700ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1940g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is the odd wear and tear scratch to the body and base commensurate with age and use.
