This is a pair of exceptionally high-quality lead crystal pan champagne glasses dating to the latter part of the 19th century.
The capacious coupe-shaped bowl is engraved below the rim with a fruiting vine motif in matte intaglio. This surmounts a band of fourteen oval-shaped panels with straight sides.
There is a solid, globular knop at the junction of the bowl and the complex, decorative stem. There is a flared upper portion which contains a large enclosed air bubble, which has been drawn down into the finely-waisted stem before flaring out again to terminate at a conical bubble. The base of the knop is cut with six petals that extend down onto the stem as facets.
The foot is broad and discoid, with a central polished pontil on the underside.
One glass has a height of approximately 12.2cm and the other is 12.0cm. Each has a diameter across the rim of about 9.1cm and across the foot of about 7.4cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 200ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 350g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although one glass has a piece of frit enclosed within the foot (see pictures). This is a manufacturing artefact.
