This is a high-quality cut lead crystal fruit bowl from the ‘Sophia’ range produced by Thomas Webb.
The bowl has an ogee-shaped profile, with a broad rim that curves inwards before straightening out before the small base.
It is decorated below the rim with four sprigs of flowers and leaves in a combination of plain and matte intaglio cut. Below this is a lattice of interlocking crosses that diminish in size as they approach the base. The latter is thickened with a central polished pontil.
The bowl bears the original green paper label, which reads ‘THOMAS WEBB INTERNATIONAL CRYSTAL’.
It has a height of approximately 12.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 21.8cm and across the base of about 6.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1740g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some scratches to the exterior at the widest point, which are commensurate with age and use. This wear is reflected in the price.
