This is a nice example of a plant pot holder or cachepot from the ‘Harmony’ range, produced by SylvaC in the 1960s and 1970s.
The pot is broadly cylindrical in form, with a moulded swirl pattern in relief in two panels. The glaze has a crackled, metallic finish, which resembles weathered bronze.
The base is circular and glazed in the centre. It is also impressed with the number ‘4302’ and the words ‘SYLVAC MADE IN ENGLAND’, although these are barely discernible due to the thickness of the glaze.
The mark is very hard to read, and from some angles, the product number looks more like 4309. The 4309 was also a ‘Harmony plant pot’, according to the book ‘Collecting SylvaC Pottery’ by Francis Joseph, but with a larger diameter of 8 ½”. The 4302 is listed as having a diameter of 7″, which is accurate for this piece.
The piece bears the original (albeit worn) gold and white sticker, which reads ‘SYLVAC MADE IN ENGLAND’ and has the Mr SylvaC logo on the right-hand side. This sticker dates the piece to the 1960s.
It has a height of approximately 14.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 16.5cm and across the base of about 14.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1110g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
