This is a set of four high-quality lead glass tumblers from the M10 water set produced by Whitefriars Glass and dating to the mid-20th century.
Each tumbler has a barrel-shaped body that is vertically ribbed and tapers towards the thickened base. The latter is plain and flat.
They are made in the ‘Arctic Blue’ colourway.
One tumbler bears the original Whitefriars Glass octagonal paper label, which reads ‘WHITEFRIARS MADE IN ENGLAND’ with the stylised monk logo.
The M10 water set appears on page 23 of the 1957 Whitefriars catalogue.
Each tumbler has a height of approximately 9.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.2cm and across the base of about 5.4cm.
Each tumbler has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 340ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 1060g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. There is the odd ‘dent’ in the rim, which is from the cutting and finishing process; these are manufacturing artefacts.
