This is a highly collectible character jug, originally designed by Stanley James Taylor for Royal Doulton.
The piece is moulded in the form of the ‘Pearly Queen’, who is wearing a black coat with silver buttons, and a black hat with white, pink, and blue feathers. The handle is formed by the Bow Bells and pink and blue feathers.
The base is marked in green with the Royal Doulton logo in the centre surrounded by the words ‘HAND MADE AND HAND DECORATED ROYAL DOULTON PEARLY QUEEN D 6759 MODELLED BY STANLEY JAMES TAYLOR © 1986 ROYAL DOULTON’.
Stanley James Taylor, a retired art teacher from Bristol, was responsible for the majority of character jug designs from 1982 onwards.
It has a maximum height of approximately 17.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 860g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although the centre of the Royal Doulton logo on the base is gouged, which suggests that this piece may have been considered ‘seconds’ quality. Aside from one small blob of glaze on the top of the feathers at the rim, I can’t see anything else that would have made it a ‘second’.
