This is a charming example of a bone china christening plate from the ‘Bunnykins’ range produced by Royal Doulton and dating to the 1980s.
The plate has a broad, flattened rim that steps down into a central lower portion.
It is glazed in a pale cream-yellow shade, over which has been transfer-printed a band of leaping bunnies around the rim. In the centre is an image depicting a family of bunnies attending a christening. This image is encircled by the words ‘BUNNYKINS CELEBRATE YOUR CHRISTENING’ and a flower garland.
The underside is marked in the centre with the Royal Doulton logo being carried by a group of rabbits. Below this are the words ‘ENGLISH FINE BONE CHINA “BUNNYKINS” ® © 1936 ROYAL DOULTON’.
PLEASE NOTE: The ears of one rabbit in the mark have been defaced, which is indicative of ‘seconds’ quality. I have looked the plate over and the only thing I can see that would render it a ‘seconds’ is some stippling to the plain glaze below the word ‘YOUR’. This is only visible on close inspection and isn’t even picked up by the camera.
In addition, the plate comes in the original box, although this is worn around the edges and has some marks on the cardboard.
The plate has a diameter of approximately 20.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 310g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although as previously mentioned the box is worn.
