This is a nice example of a retro ceramic vase produced by Scheurich Keramik in West Germany.
The vase has a wide, galleried rim, which steps in to meet the flared cylindrical neck. This widens out to form a ‘shoulder’ at the junction with the tapering urn-shaped body. There is a strap-like handle attached just below the rim which extends down to meet and overlap the edge of the shoulder.
The base is slightly domed and moulded with the number ‘404-26’ and the words ‘W. GERMANY’.
The interior of the vase is glazed in a dark glossy brown. The body is glazed in a matte pale creamy yellow, over which is a glossy black glaze that has been applied thickly at the rim and the base, and gently mottled towards the centre.
It has a height of approximately 26.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.4cm and across the base of about 9.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 950g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although the gloss sections of the glaze have some minor crazing.
