This is a stylish retro coffee pot from the ‘Taurus’ range produced by Palissy, which The Royal Worcester Group then owned.
The coffee pot is approximately cylindrical in form, widening out before sitting on a small discoid base. The handle is attached approximately one-third of the way down the body. The spout is angular and drawn from the body. There is a stylised bull design that repeats on either side of the handle. The base is decorated with a ring of stylised flowers.
The underside of the base is impressed with the words ‘PALISSY ENGLAND’. It is then marked in black with the words ‘A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL WORCESTER GROUP PALISSY ENGLAND EST 1853 CASUAL TABLEWARE’. This mark is smudged in the centre which would suggest that this item could have been of ‘seconds’ quality.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 26.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 900g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a notch out of the spout rim that has been glazed over. There is also an area on the edge of the lid which has been touched up in the same glaze colour as the body. These are likely to be why this item was marked as a ‘seconds’ quality piece. It also has some very minor crazing to the glaze.
