This is a striking example of a ceramic flower vase from the ‘Calypso’ range, designed by the Queensberry Hunt Partnership for Poole Pottery.
The piece is described as a ‘ginger jar vase’, with a short galleried rim and ovoid body. The whole is glazed in a dark grey, known as ‘slate grey’ and finished with an iridescent finish described as ‘lustre’ in the Poole Pottery catalogue.
The underside is marked with the words ‘POOLE ENGLAND’. This mark was in use from 1979.
It has a height of approximately 21.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.2cm and across the base of about 11.9cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1080g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some brown marks on the white portion of the base which I believe are drips from the lustre finish.
