This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal sherry glasses from the ‘Star of Edinburgh’ suite by Edinburgh Crystal.
The bucket-shaped bowl is cut with a complex design consisting of three large and three small motifs, which alternate around the bowl. The larger motif comprises a complex star formed by two horizontal wedge cuts with five angulated wedge cuts above and below. Each pair of adjacent wedge cuts above the horizontal contains a three-pointed fan. The two outer wedge cuts below the horizontal curve downwards to form a swag that connects to the neighbouring large motif. The smaller motif is formed from pairs of angulated wedge cuts that cross the line and come to a point that is topped by a three-pointed fan. The small triangular-shaped panel formed between the swag and the wedge cuts is further cut with a lattice of small diamonds.
The base of the bowl is thickened and merges with the double capstan stem. The foot is star cut and marked on the edge with the words ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL’.
In addition, each glass bears the original purple label, which reads ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL EST 1867’ surmounted by a lion rampant.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.6cm and across the foot of about 5.9cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 80ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 280g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
