This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal port glasses from the ‘Compleat Imbiber’ suite designed by Frank Thrower for Dartington Crystal.
The cylindrical bowl tapers in at the thickened base to a solid cylindrical stem. This then flares out to form the slightly domed foot. The latter is unmarked.
Each glass bears the original Dartington sticker, which reads ‘DARTINGTON ENGLAND 24% LEAD CRYSTAL’. The label is black, which suggests that they are of ‘seconds’ quality.
In addition, the glasses come in their original Dartington Glass box.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.1cm and across the foot of about 6.2cm. There may be minor discrepancies in the dimensions, due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 180ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 340g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there may be the odd wear and tear scratch commensurate with use.
