This is a highly attractive example of an early to mid-20th century lemonade or cocktail set, possibly French in origin but maker unknown.
The jug consists of eight vertical panels in blue glass. Within three of the panels, there is a cut design representing two ears of barley. There is an applied handle in amber glass. The base of the jug has a central polished pontil.
The glasses are conically shaped, with the blue glass bowl merging imperceptibly into a short amber stem and foot. The foot is flat with a slight depression at the pontil. These are also vertically ribbed to form eight ‘panels’ that are alternately cut with the same cereal design as the jug. The set was likely used originally for lemon and barley water.
The jug has a maximum height of approximately 19.7cm, with a diameter across the base of about 10.8cm. It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of around 1250ml and an unwrapped weight of 760g.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.7cm and across the foot of about 7.7cm. Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of around 340ml and an unwrapped weight of 150g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
