This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal large wine glasses, originally for white wine, from the ‘Balmoral’ suite by Edinburgh Crystal.
The bowl is cut with a complex design consisting of five large crosses in the lower part of the bowl, the upper and lower arms of which come into close approximation. In the kite-shaped panel thus formed is a large central cross surrounded by four smaller ones. Above this is a deep leaf-shaped wedge cut, which meets the junction of the upper arms of the large crosses. In addition, these arms contain a three-pointed fan. At the base of the design, there is a ring of six further small leaf-shaped wedge cuts.
At the junction of the bowl and the stem is a bladed knop. The stem is of baluster form and merges with the star-cut foot. The latter is unmarked.
Each glass has a height of approximately 15.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.8cm and across the foot of about the same.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 190ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 380g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
