This is a high-quality cut lead crystal pickle jar by Webb Corbett Crystal and dating to the mid-20th century.
The body is bulbous with a short neck and galleried rim. There is a repeating pattern of small relief diamonds cut within a kite shape, bordered by deep mitre cuts. At the apex, there are two horizontally placed fan cuts, each with three points. In addition, there is an arch-shaped mitre cut, which extends across to meet the adjacent diamond. The space between diamonds contains an oval cut facet.
The thickened base is star-cut and marked at the edge with the words ‘WEBB CORBETT ENGLAND’. This mark was in use from 1947 to 1965.
The lid is of flattened globular form with a star-cut apex. The neck of the jar and the peg of the hollow stopper are both ground to allow a tight fit.
It has a height (excluding the lid) of approximately 9.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.3cm and across the base of about 4.5cm. It has a maximum height (including the lid) of about 11.9cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 510g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the body and base commensurate with use.
