This is a simple but attractive utilitarian wine or water carafe, probably British in origin and dating to between 1870 and 1880.
The carafe is of classic form, with an everted rim, short cylindrical neck, and flattened globular body. The latter is decorated around the edge with a band of eleven thumb cuts. The base is slightly domed and unmarked.
It has a maximum height of approximately 15.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.5cm and across the base of about 7.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 400g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the interior and exterior commensurate with use
