Jeannette Glass Company ‘Doric and Pansy’ Design Handled Tray in Teal or Ultramarine

This is a highly attractive and collectible piece of 1930s American ‘Depression’ glass, from the ‘Doric and Pansy’ range by the Jeannette Glass Company.

The tray is round with a broad, flat rim. There is a protruding handle with an undulating edge on either side.

The piece is moulded on the underside with a pair of circumferential mitres encircling a band of small panels that contain an alternating pattern of stylised pansies and a central star with fans radiating to the corners. There is a further pair of concentric mitres that border the central motif, which is made up of twelve segments with alternating large and small pansy motifs. In the centre is a large radiating fan motif.

The piece has been made in a pale blue-green glass that is commonly described as ‘teal’ or ‘ultramarine’.

The ‘Doric and Pansy’ suite was only produced for two years and is therefore quite sought-after.

It has a height of approximately 2.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 26.4cm and across the base of about 22.8cm. It has a maximum width across the handles of 32.2cm.

It has an unwrapped weight of 710g.

It is in good condition for its age, although there are some minor chips to some of the moulding and to the edges. There are also some enclosed bubbles and striations to the glass from the manufacturing process. This wear is reflected in the price.
