This is a stunning example of a feathered ‘turban’ hat, produced by the French millinery company Mad’Leine and dating to the 1960s.
The hat has a netted frame over which is fixed an overlapping whorl of soft, thin, black feathers. On the front is a black velvet bow.
The interior is lined with a black fabric. There is a black band around the edge, onto which is sewn the white fabric maker’s label, which reads ‘MAD’LEINE 390 RUE ST. HONORÉ, PARIS’.
It comes in the original cardboard Harrods box, which has some minor wear to the edges.
The hat has a height internally of approximately 12.0cm and a maximum height of 14.0cm. It has a circumference around the internal rim of 54.0cm.
It has a weight (including the box) of 580g. The hat weighs 70g.
It is in excellent, clean condition.
