This is a good-quality lead crystal wine glass rinser or cooler, probably dating to between 1840 and 1850.
The piece is of simple, cylindrical form and has two pouring spouts drawn out from the rim on opposite sides of the bowl.
The base is thickened and is polished flat. It is unmarked.
It has a height of approximately 10.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 11.5cm and across the base of about 10.1cm. It has a maximum width across the rim, from spout to spout, of 14.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 520g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a number of wear and tear scratches to the body and base, commensurate with use. There is also a small patch of water staining on the inside of the base, and a number of red inclusions within the glass, which must be undissolved ‘red lead’ powder. This wear is reflected in the price.
