This is a highly attractive posy holder or potpourri produced by Radford Handcraft Pottery.
The posy is in a flattened globular form, with a central hole surrounded by two staggered circles of eight perforations. The front and back are decorated with hand-painted floral designs. The back has a similar design but with two single flowers – one red (like on the front) and the other blue.
The base has an unglazed rim, which reveals the underlying ceramic body to be white. The centre bears the later E. Radford mark, which reads ‘E. RADFORD ENGLAND HANDPAINTED’. This mark was in use from 1935 onwards. It also has the impressed number ‘1019’ and a set of initials in green, which I presume are those of the artist.
It has a height of approximately 6.5cm and a width of about 13.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 310g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze.
