This is a great example of a ‘Daisy’ range candleholder, designed by Frank Thrower in 1968 for Dartington Glass.
The candleholder has a cuboidal body, a short cylindrical neck and a wide, galleried rim. Each face of the cube has a moulded daisy motif. The base is slightly textured and unmarked.
The rim bears the original red Dartington label that reads ‘DARTINGTON ENGLAND’.
The red label was introduced in 1968 to denote ‘seconds’ quality and was replaced by a black label in 1978. The label was originally square, before changing to a circular one.
It has a height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.0cm and a width across the base of 8.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 430g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some water staining in the base, which is visible on close inspection. This wear is reflected in the price.
