This is a stunning, high-quality cut lead crystal ‘baluster’ goblet from the ‘Silverdale’ suie produced by Cumbria Crystal.
The goblet has a bucket-shaped bowl and is cut with a band of twelve horizontal ovals, bordered above and below by a fine wedge cut. This surmounts a band of faceted diamonds formed from seven rows of interlocking crosses that diminish in size as they approach the base of the bowl. The latter is thickened. The stem is highly ornate, being formed from a central hollow ball knop, above and below which is a double capstan portion. The stem merges with the broad, discoid foot, which is star-cut and unmarked.
The goblet has a height of approximately 22.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.0cm and across the foot of about 8.9cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 350ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 550g.
Cumbria Crystal still produces their famous baluster goblets, although the ‘Silverdale’ suite appears to have been discontinued. A new baluster goblet (in another pattern) in 2024 will cost you at least £170.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
