This is a charming example of a handmade glass paperweight produced by the Bristol Glass factory.
The paperweight is made from cranberry glass, although they refer to it on their website as ‘ruby’. It has been blown into a sphere with a small, flattened base with a central domed portion. It is signed at the edge with the word ‘BRISTOL’.
Bristol Glass has suspended the production of ‘Ruby’ glass on their website as the cost of the pigment (24-carat gold) is so high that it is not economically viable for them. They still produce jewellery from this range, and other items are available for commission only. This paperweight is now considered ‘out of production’.
The paperweight has a height of approximately 7.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 240g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
