This is a fine example of a bone china cake serving plate and cake slice set from the ‘Pembroke’ range by Aynsley.
The large plate is round with an undulating, gilded rim. The body of the plate is moulded with what looks like petals, over which has been applied a stylised floral and foliage design with a central stylised bird.
It is marked on the underside with the Aynsley crown motif and the words ‘EST. 1775 AYNSLEY MADE IN ENGLAND FINE ENGLISH BONE CHINA’.
The cake slice has a matching bone china handle, decorated in the same design as the plate. The blade has a serrated edge on one side and is made from stainless steel. It is marked ‘AYNSLEY EST. 1775 STAINLESS STEEL ENGLAND’.
The plate has a diameter across the rim of 26.4cm. The cake slice has a maximum length of about 24.4cm.
They have an unwrapped weight of 670g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some minor wear to the stainless steel portion of the cake slice commensurate with light use.
