This is a classic example of a vanity bottle dating to the late 19th century.
The bottle is cylindrical in form with a polished base. The body is cut with ten facets that have curved upper and lower margins. The rim is galleried to allow for close fitting of the lid.
The lid is made from a silver-coloured metal and is unmarked.
Pieces such as this are often labelled as ‘toilet water bottles’, ‘perfume bottles’, and even ‘hatpin cases’.
It has a height (including the lid) of approximately 16.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 3.5cm and across the base of about 3.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 130g.
It is in good condition, with some minor nicks to the inner rim and edges commensurate with age and use. There is also some minor tarnishing to the lid.
