This is a high-quality cut lead crystal wine decanter from the ‘Georgian’ suite produced by Webb Corbett for Royal Doulton Crystal.
The decanter is bottle-shaped with a wide, flattened rim. The neck is cut with five rows of eight concave oval cuts, which become progressively circular toward the rim. The body is decorated with a lattice formed from two rows of nine interlocking crosses. Each cross in the uppermost row is surmounted by a three-pointed fan cut. The diamond-shaped panels formed between adjacent crosses in the top row contain a smaller cross-cut.
Above the base of the decanter is a ring of nine concave oval cuts. The base is star cut and marked at the edge with a crown logo and the words ‘ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND’.
The stopper has eight vertical wedge cuts, which meet at the apex. In addition, there are four rounded concave facet cuts, which curve inwards to form a neck just above the peg.
The decanter bears the original silver and dark blue label, which reads ‘ROYAL DOULTON CRYSTAL BY WEBB CORBETT’. In addition, the decanter comes with the original wrapping in the original box.
The height to the top of the rim (excluding the stopper) is approximately 21.5cm, and including the stopper is 29.8cm. It has a diameter across the rim of about 6.0cm and across the base of about 7.1cm.
It has a liquid capacity of 700ml to the shoulder.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1070g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, as it has probably never been used.
