This is a high-quality cut lead crystal wine or water carafe from the ‘Ballantrae’ suite produced by Edinburgh Crystal.
The carafe is made from thick lead crystal and has an angular rim. The neck is narrow and cut with eight facets. The globular body is cut with four vertical mitres which divide the body into panels. Each panel contains an upper portion formed from a lattice of cross-cut diamonds. Below this are three large crosses arranged vertically, the elongated limbs of which converge at the same point. There is a small cross cut below the centre of the lowermost large cross cut.
The body sits on a thick, discoid base, which is star cut and marked at the edge with the words ‘EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL’.
It has a maximum height of approximately 26.2cm and a diameter across the base of about 8.8cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the shoulder) of 500ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1010g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
