This is a classic example of a lead crystal wine glass or wine bottle coaster, designed by Frank Thrower in 1983 for Dartington Glass.
The coaster’s underside features an impressed design of a bunch of grapes surrounded by vine leaves. The upper surface has a galleried rim to hold a wine bottle or glass.
It is unmarked but bears the original black Dartington sticker, which reads ‘DARTINGTON ENGLAND 24% LEAD CRYSTAL’. The black denotes ‘seconds’ quality.
It has a height of approximately 2.2cm and a diameter of approximately 9.8cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 350g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although it does contain several pieces of frit and enclosed air bubbles, which is probably why it has been labelled as a ‘seconds’ piece.
