This is a very nice piece of handmade studio pottery by William Fishley Holland (Senior).
The vase is of flattened gourd form, with an everted rim. It is decorated around the shoulder with an incised ‘combed’ design in an undulating wavy motif. It is then glazed with a yellow-green shade over which is dripped a mottled tan-brown colour.
The base is lightly glazed but the underlying ceramic body appears to be a red clay. It is incised with the signature of William Fishley Holland (Senior).
It has a height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.1cm and across the base of about 7.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 550g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few burst bubbles within the glazed portion.
