This is a stunning, high-quality cut lead crystal single wine glass, probably British in origin and dating to the end of the 19th century.
The rounded bowl sits on a baluster-shaped stem that contains an elongated enclosed bubble. The bowl is decorated with an oval cartouche that contains the engraved monogram ‘JHC’. This is then surrounded by wheel-cut swags. There is a ring of small lens-shaped discs above the attachment to the stem.
The foot has a central polished pontil, and then approximately two-thirds of the way out from the centre there is a wheel-cut design consisting of small discs arranged in a circular pattern.
This would have originally been commissioned as part of a family’s private stemware service, which would have been an expensive undertaking at the time.
It has a height of approximately 12.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.1cm and across the foot of about 5.7cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 95ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 60g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
