This is a set of three lamp-blown drinking glasses, likely originating from the Thüringen forest region of the then-German Democratic Republic (GDR).
Each glass has a galleried rim and a rounded body. The body tapers in and merges imperceptibly with the thin, drawn stem. This widens out again and merges with the plain foot. The latter is hollow and drawn up into the stem in the centre. They are unmarked.
The glasses have been lamp-blown, which makes them extremely thin and fine. This ‘harlequin’ set comprises an amber, a blue, and a purple drinking glass.
Each glass bears the original silver and cream paper label, which reads ‘HANDMADE MADE IN GDR’.
The glasses come in their original black and gold box, which has a white satin lining and a plastic window on the front. The box is quite worn in places, and the satin has a couple of faint marks.
These glasses may be attributable to Albin Schaedel, a master glass artist based in Arnstadt, who was renowned for his experimental lamp-blown vessels.
Each glass has a height of approximately 20.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.4cm and across the foot of about 5.9cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 160ml.
They have an unwrapped weight (including the box) of 490g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although as previously mentioned, the box is worn in places.
