This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal champagne flutes from the ‘Villemont’ suite produced by J. G. Durand of France.
The elongated, bucket-shaped bowl is cut with three large, seven-pointed fans, the outer limbs of which cross over the limbs of adjacent fan cuts. The space below this is filled with a lattice formed from small cross cuts.
There is a small waisted portion at the junction of the bowl and the stem. The latter is cut with six facets, rendering it hexagonal in section. The foot is star cut in the centre and marked at the edge with ‘J. G. DURAND’.
One glass bears the remains of the original blue and white sticker, which reads ‘J. G. DURAND CRISTAL AU PLOMB 24% FRANCE’.
Each glass has a height of approximately 20.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.5cm and across the foot of about 6.8cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 150ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 660g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
