This is a charming example of a Georgian lead crystal wine glass dating to around 1770.
The funnel-shaped bowl merges imperceptibly with the plain solid stem. A third of the way down the bowl is a cut circumferential line. This is surmounted by a band of elongated ‘egg’ cuts; between adjacent ‘eggs’ there is a stylised ‘dart’ motif. The stem merges with the plain foot. The latter is thick and domed, with a central rough pontil mark.
It has a height of approximately 11.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.9cm and across the foot of about 6.3cm, although this is not entirely circular.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 70ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 120g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some frit at the rim and numerous striations around the top of the bowl, which are manufacturing artefacts.
