This is a high-quality cut and etched lead crystal brandy glass from the ‘Thistle’ suite produced by Edinburgh Crystal for over 100 years.
The glass has a capacious balloon-shaped bowl that is etched and engraved below the rim with three thistle and foliage sprigs. Below this is a band of arched panel cuts that sit on a circumferential mitre cut. The lower half of the bowl is cut with a large lattice formed from raised diamonds.
A short, tapering stem connects the bowl to the star-cut foot. The latter is unmarked.
The foot bears the original purple and silver rectangular label, which reads ‘QUALITY CRYSTAL FROM SCOTLAND’.
It has a height of approximately 13.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.2cm and across the foot of about 7.6cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 400ml. This corresponds to the Edinburgh Crystal catalogue’s ‘large brandy glass’ listing, which has product number ‘200177’.
It has an unwrapped weight of 250g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
