This is a lovely example of a glass candlestick from the gold variant of the ‘Calypto’ range, designed by Michael Harris for Chance Glass.
The dish has a fluted, gilded rim; the remainder is printed in gold with a stylised eucalyptus print.
The original ‘Calypto’ design was introduced in 1959 and continued in production until around 2000. The ‘Gold Calypto’ variation was put into production after 1970.
The plate has been drilled through the centre, and a gold-coloured metal foot and upper candleholder have been attached.
The piece bears the original black and gold label, which reads ‘CHANCE GLASS A MEMBER OF THE PILKINGTON GROUP MADE IN ENGLAND’. This label was used by Chance Glass from 1970 to 1981.
It has a maximum height of approximately 5.5cm and a diameter across the rim of about 12.6cm. The metal candleholder has a diameter of about 2.4cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 160g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some wear to the metal fitting and the label.
