Wendy Green Studio Pottery Jardinière or Cachepot with Abstract Blue and Grey Glaze

This is a handsome example of a large handmade stoneware plant pot holder or cachepot produced by the potter Wendy Green.

The pot has an everted rim and a rounded body, which tapers in above the base. It is glazed in a speckled grey on the interior and exterior; the latter is also decorated with an abstract motif in blue and brown, with patches of iron glaze giving rust shades.

The base is unglazed and impressed towards the edge with a rectangle containing the letters ‘WG’.

This monogram was used by Wendy Green, who was based at The Forge in Queenhill, Upton on Severn, Worcestershire, from 1968 until 1975, when she moved to Hill Farm in Whiteshill, Stroud, Gloucestershire. According to the book ‘British Studio Potters’ Marks’ by Eric Yates-Owen and Robert Fournier, this mark was in use from 1968 to 1994, when it was changed to a painted monogram.

It has a height of approximately 13.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 20.1cm and across the base of about 11.0cm.

It has an unwrapped weight of 830g.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
