This is a stylish, mid-century bowl or platter produced for BR Keramik (Brdr. Rasmussen Kunstindustri), which was established in 1958.
The bowl is broad and shallow and has been hand-thrown with a terracotta body. This has been impressed around the exterior with a geometric pattern. The whole has been glazed in a dark pistachio shade of green, which is concentrated on the interior and thinner on the exterior, giving a mottled effect where the terracotta body shows through.
The underside has a raised foot rim which bears the remains of the trivet marks from the kiln, which have been ground off in places. These are manufacturing artefacts.
The bowl is impressed within the foot rim with the words ‘MADE IN DENMARK’ above the initials ‘BR’. In addition, it is also marked with the number ‘573’.
It has a height of approximately 6.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 34.0cm and across the base of about 20.9cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1940g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a small firing crack at the rim (see pictures). This is another manufacturing flaw.
