This is a classic vintage example of a preserve pot from the ‘Petite Rose’ suite produced by Midwinter.
The body is approximately gourd-shaped and stands on a tapering foot. The black lid is domed, with a notch for the spoon at the edge and a small central knop. The body is decorated with monochrome grey foliage with scarlet roses and buds.
The base has an unglazed foot rim, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be white. The base is marked with a black transfer print, which reads ‘MIDWINTER STYLECRAFT STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND FASHION SHAPE 7 – 66’.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 11.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.5cm and across the base of about 7.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 310g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some very small areas of glaze loss and some fine surface scratches. These are commensurate with use but this wear is reflected in the price.
