This is a set of five stunning, high-quality lead crystal wine glasses, probably British in origin and dating to between 1890 and 1900.
Each glass is made from fine lead crystal, with a capacious ovoid bowl. This tapers in and merges with the plain, straight stem and plain, flat foot. The latter has a central polished pontil and is unmarked.
The bowl is machine-etched below the rim with a circumferential ring of matte dots. This surmounts twelve panels that extend down to the base of the bowl. Six wide panels have scrolled upper margins and contain a stylised floral motif. Between adjacent wide panels is a narrow panel that has been etched to give a matte appearance. This contains a large stylised leaf pointing downwards, and a trailing leaf motif below the centre. There is an engraved circumferential band that bisects the panels; this is decorated with large dots where it bisects the narrower panels. These panels terminate at a pair of concentric rings at the base of the bowl.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.3cm and across the foot of about 5.7cm. There may be minor differences in the dimensions due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 95ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 240g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
