This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal sherry glasses from the ‘Phillipe’ range produced by Wedgwood Crystal and decorated with the ‘Justine’ cutting.
The elongated, rounded bowl tapers slightly toward the rim. The lower half of the bowl is cut with a band of four large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. Above the centre of each cross is a five-limbed fan cut. In the diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses is a further small cross with elongated lower limbs which bisect the lower limbs of the larger crosses.
The bowl sits on a hollow, cylindrical stem. This then merges with the star cut foot. The latter is marked at the edge with ‘3 WEDGWOOD A/2’
In addition, each glass bears the original oval plastic label, which reads ‘24% LEAD CRYSTAL WEDGWOOD ® ENGLAND’ in gold print.
The ‘Phillipe’ range was designed by Ronald Stennett-Willson and has the pattern number FJT22. ‘Phillipe’ is the standard, uncut suite name, but it was also available decorated in this style (Justine) and a floral cut called ‘Sundra’.
Each glass has a height of approximately 17.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.1cm and across the foot of about 6.4cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity of 140ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 210g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
