This is an attractive ceramic candlestick or candleholder produced by Blue Mountain Pottery of Ontario, Canada.
The piece is lenticular in shape, with downturned ends. There is a central galleried portion which will hold a tapered candle. It is decorated all over with a mottled and streaked green glaze.
The base has an unglazed rim, revealing the underlying terracotta-coloured body. It is moulded on the base with the word ‘CANADA’ and the Three Trees logo. This ‘Three Tree’ mark was designed by Chris Yaneff in 1967 and was in use until 1976.
The piece bears the original blue and white paper label, which reads ‘BLUE MOUNTAIN POTTERY MADE IN CANADA’. This label was in use from 1968.
It has a maximum height of approximately 4.2cm and a length across the base of about 18.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 170g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a glaze miss on the edge of the central candle-holding portion (see pictures). This is a manufacturing artefact.
