This is a high-quality cut lead crystal small brandy glass from the ‘Canon’ suite by Stuart Crystal.
The balloon-shaped bowl is cut approximately halfway down with a lattice formed from two rows of interlocking crosses. Each diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses in the upper row is cut with a further cross.
The base of the bowl is thickened, with a broad discoid collar at the junction with the short, tapering stem.
The foot is plain and marked in the centre with the words ‘STUART ENGLAND’. This particular version of the mark was in use between 1930 and 1950.
It has a height of approximately 11.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.9cm and across the foot of about 6.8cm.
The Stuart Crystal ‘Canon’ suite had the pattern number 29637. The 1956 catalogue describes this glass as the 10oz brandy, which is the smaller of the two sizes available.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 290ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 200g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
