This is a nice example of a posy trough by Dartmouth Pottery.
The piece is approximately cylindrical in shape with a flattened rim. The whole is moulded with a stylised bark and knot design to give the effect of a felled tree trunk. Each end is moulded with tree rings. The rim is approximately rectangular but is uneven.
The base has an unglazed foot-rim, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be white in colour. It is impressed in the centre with the word ‘DARTMOUTH POTTERY DEVON’ and the number ‘108’. In addition, it bears the original yellow and gold sticker that reads ‘DARTMOUTH POTTERY DEVON’.
It has a height of approximately 7.6cm, with a maximum length of about 30.9cm and a diameter across the ‘trunk’ of about 9.0cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
