This is a stunning example of a high quality cut lead crystal brandy balloon, probably continental in origin.
The balloon shaped bowl has a thickened base and an everted rim. The centre of the bowl is cut with six large criss-crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come in to close approximation. At this point there is a five-pointed fan cut. Each cross is overcut with a vertical cross. Either side of each limb of the vertical cross is a matt intaglio wedge cut. There is a broad discoid attachment at the junction of the stem and the short, tapering stem. The foot is plain and unmarked.
It has a height of approximately 14.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.4cm and across the foot of about 6.9cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
