This is a highly attractive posy vase by the Franz Welz firm of Czechoslovakia, dating to the latter part of the 19th century. The body is in classical form, with an amphora shaped upper portion on a stepped plinth-like base. It is made in layers of coloured glass overlaid with flint giving a marbleised effect. The flint glass handle have been separately applied and crimped. It has a maximum height of approximately 17.8cm, with a width at the rim of about 3.5cm and across the base of about 6.0cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a manufacturing artefact in the form of a scuff on one of the arms where the polishing wheel has caught it during finishing. This is barely noticeable.
