Webb Corbett Highly Cut Lead Crystal Pickle Jar

This is a high quality cut lead crystal pickle jar or jam pot by Webb Corbett. The pot has a rounded shoulder and tapers in slightly toward the base. The neck is short and ground for close fitting of the stopper. The rim is broad and flat. The shoulder is cut with a series of eight horizontal oval cuts. Below this there is a band of cutting encircling the centre of the pot. This consists of eight large criss-crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. The diamond shaped panel thus formed contains a further smaller criss-cross that subdivides it into four smaller diamond shaped panels. Each of these contains a criss-cross overcut by a vertical cross. The upper arms of each large criss-cross contain a seven-pointed fan. Beneath the centre of each criss-cross is an elongated thumb cut extending down to the base. These alternate with leaf-shaped wedge cuts that extend downwards from the large diamond shaped panels. The base is star cut as is the centre of the hollow domed stopper. It is unmarked, except for an engraved number ‘23’ on the rim and the lid. It has a maximum height of approximately 12.6cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 7.4cm and across the base of about 6.0cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the body and base.
