Vintage Varden Pottery Ceramic Straw Hat Design Wall Pocket
For a full product description, see below.
This is a highly attractive vintage wall pocket by Varden Pottery and probably dating to the mid-20th century.
The wall pocket takes the form of a stylised straw hat with a herringbone weave. There is an applied ribbon with stylised flowers and leaves. The brim is upturned to form the mouth of the pocket.
The back is straw coloured, and has the impressed mark ‘VARDEN ENGLAND’. There is a ‘keyhole’ shaped hole to allow the pocket to be hung over a fixture in the wall.
The interior of the pocket is glazed in an off-white colour, which has a glossy finish in contrast to the overall matt finish of the piece.
It has a maximum height of approximately 18.5cm, with a maximum width of about 18.0cm and a maximum depth of about 6.0cm.
It is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks. There is slight wear to the glaze on the back of the piece in the vicinity of the screw hole. Presumably this is a result of attempts to place the pocket over a screw in the wall.
