Vintage Cobalt Blue Glass Tankard with Clear Handle ‘Made in Finland’
For a full product description, see below.
This is a stunning example of a high-quality lead glass tankard, probably dating to the 1960s and originating from Finland.
The tankard is of classic form, widening out towards the thickened, rounded base. The latter has a central polished pontil and is unmarked. The body is made from thick cobalt-blue glass. The handle has been separately applied in flint (clear) glass. The handle has an enclosed air bubble, which is drawn through the core.
The piece bears the original black and silver paper label, which reads ‘MADE IN FINLAND’. Although I do not know exactly who produced this, I have seen similar pieces of cobalt glass produced at this time during this period by Iittala Glass.
It has a height of approximately 10.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.3cm and across the base of about 6.8cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
